The City Marina in Apalachicola , known locally as ” 10 foot hole” is being improved as we speak . They are rebuilding the launch ramps and as a result they are temporarily closed . They will also be rebuilding the long side that is dedicated to transient boaters with new electrical service as well as all new decking and pilings . The fishing Gazebo at the end of the pier will be rebuilt as well . These were damaged severely from the passing of Tropical Storm Dennis a couple years ago and the resulting surge did the damage . The wefings slips are being used by boats from the other side temporarily , but if someone were interested in renting our C Dory , the slip would be available . The alternative boat launches are located at the commercial marina on the north end of Market street, Scipio Creek Marina [charges $, but has a Marine Store ,fuel and bait] ,and the river launch called “pine Log” that is up Bluff Rd . There are a couple of other private ramps at Two Mile [west of Apalach] and the Wheelhouse Restaurant that may allow launching for a fee . The project should take a few weeks to complete and is interesting to watch , as they have dammed off the ramp area and will pump the water out in order to complete the work . It will allow easier launching of bigger boats with less risk of trailer damage.
Dont let this stop ya from coming down to boat or fish as the weather is perfect and the summer crowds [ such as they are] are not here yet .
