Ill take this opportunity to update those interested with some of the goings on in our business at this time of year . The traditions say that the business will slow down after the fourth of July , but we seen to be steady with interest in our new and all weather products and the “Service Stream” is moving along well .We are lucky [smart?] and have bucked the industry trends so far.
TheĀ manufacturing year is coming to a close for most of the lines of boats and motors , and with the uncertain economy the normal techniques that would be employed to get production figures and early orders for the upcoming winter and following season are difficult to predict for both the dealer and the manufacturer. This is where the team mentality will have to prevail[because its not the normal "manufacturer has advantage" situation] . The smart dealers are going to try for maximum preservation of cash flow through the winter months which is the opposite of what the manufacturers want which is maximum production planning . This leads to a number of situations ,such as the smaller guys going out of business [both dealer and Mfg,] I can also lead to better incentives offered by the stronger companies to help their dealers make the lean winter months with reduced inventory as well as interest assitance for what they do stock . Most of our companies are tuned to this , although some are not . It will be an interesting year for everybody and the consumer that is in the market should find some compliant dealers to shop with as we are all trying to get our “turns” as we say in the trade . The important thing for the consumer is that they get the level of service they expect and deserve .
Jef and Blair and I will be off to the Champion Dealer Meeting in Tennessee this weekend, We are interested to see the mood and what is offered to us to be mutually successful in these unusual times .
I will report back as to what we observe . This is where we see the new products and network with the other dealers so it is a valuable event in many ways .
More to come
