This year’s show will feature professional flyboarding demonstrations in the Mobile River. This exciting new sport is taking off around the Gulf Coast and is fun to watch! The Fetch-n-Fish dog show returns with dog jumping, training tips and lots of fun for the kids; and the Skeeter Experience seminar series boasts a great line-up of local and regional fishing talent sharing their secrets and tips. You can also register for giveaways in Skeeter room all weekend.
Red Snapper discussions this week along the Gulf are giving folks that fish recreationally as well as folks that are directly economically impacted by the closure a chance to share their views. If you intend to fish for reef fish in the Gulf of Mexico in 2015 you will have to take the Gulf Reef Fish Survey by April 1, 2015. It is available online now. Click Here to take the survey.
You can watch a short video about the survey on YouTube. Click to view on YouTube.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is hosting several public workshops in March to gather public input on the Gulf of Mexico recreational red snapper season in state waters (from shore out to 9 nautical miles).
The workshops are scheduled for the following locations (all are from 6 to 8 p.m. local time):
At the workshops, staff will gather public input on a proposed 2015 season that would start the Saturday before Memorial Day (May 23) and run through Sunday (July 12) resume for all of Labor Day weekend (Sept. 5-7) and finish with Saturdays and Sundays throughout September and October, with the last day of harvest being Sunday, Nov. 1. This proposed season would be 70 days. This season was the preferred option discussed by FWC Commissioners during their February meeting in Jacksonville.
The Commission will take final action on setting the 2015 Gulf red snapper state season during the April meeting.
Red snapper is a popular species that has a strong economic impact for many coastal communities throughout Florida, including here in Franklin County.
If you can make one of the Public Workshops, now may be the best chance anglers of all kinds will have to speak up and be heard.
