

Break In Period for Honda Portable motors (BF2 to BF15 BAAU Model)
For the first 10 hours, run the outboard motor at low speed, and avoid full-throttle operation or abrubt operation of the throttle.


Break In Procedure for larger motors: BF15(BALJ) to BF225
Break In Period: 10 Hours
First 15 Minutes:
- Run the engine at trolling speed. Use the minimum throttle opening necessary to operate the boat at a safe trolling speed.
Next 45 Minutes:
- Run the engine up to a maximum of 2,000 to 3,000 rpm. which is about 10% to 30% of maximum throttle opening.
Next 60 Minutes:
- Run the engine up to a maximum of 4,000 to 5,000 rpm, whihch is about 50% to 80% of maximum throttle opening.
- Short full-throttle bursts are OK, but do not operate the engine continuously at full throttle.
- For boats that plane easily, bring the boat up on plane, and then reduce the throttle opening to the recommended rpm range.
Next 8 Hours:
- Do not run the engine at full throttle for more than 5 minutes at a time.


Adhering to these simple guidelines for the first few hours of operation of your new engine should help you to get years of trouble free service and the best performance possible out of your new outboard.
