As spring rolls right along here on the Gulf Coast we have some big boating news, some local reports, one item of concern to all of us and a generally newsy newsletter to share with you.

TWIN VEE REDUX

We have some big boating news that we are very happy to report. Twin Vee is back! They are working to put the recent economic hard times behind them and are back in operation and back at Wefing's.

Twin Vee was the first successful major boat line that we carried here at Wefing's as we grew and worked our way into major and high-quality boat lines. We had great success with them for years and they had great success with Wefing's. We spent a number of years being one of their top dealers. We hope to repeat that success .

When they fell victim to the economic downturn that hurt so many in our country and particularly in the recreational boat business, we were genuinely sorry to see them go. Just before closing their doors they had made a couple of changes, both to the company management and to their focus with their boats. The new management tried to take the company away from their tried and true formula of a simple , great boat that ran well in any conditions produced with quality workmanship, built and marketed at a truly affordable price. The timing wasn't the best, but wandering from the proven path was the deciding factor.

Well, we are happy to report that the new boss is the same as the old boss, in fact, he IS the old boss. Roger Dunshee is back at the helm with a lot of his previous staff working for him. The crew is so much the same that dealing with them now is like dealing with old family members. The way it should be.

Marc visited the factory in late April and took the photo above.

We've already seen a couple of the "new" boats out of the factory and are very happy to report that they seem to be right back on track and focused on their proven strengths. A quality boat that runs with minimal power, is super versatile ,has superior seakeeping ,and is priced affordably. We love to prove that on the water with our customers.

We wish Roger and his crew all the best in their "new" venture and we here at Wefing's will be with them 100%.

TUG NEWS

Things are moving along nicely at Ranger Tug.

The R25SC has been very well received by the Trailerable Trawler Community and continues to draw lots of attention at boat shows and on the lot. The upcoming R27 promises to be a "best of both worlds" sort of affair with a larger cabin and the same cockpit and refined mechanicals and easy trailerability as the R25SC. We'll have them on hand as soon as we are able to get one from the factory. It will probably be August or so and will be a 2011 model. If curiosity gets the best of you , give Marc a call or E Mail.

Right now we have the final production run boat from the R25 2010 line on our lot. As these boats get a bit better every time the small group of craftsmen producing each one finishes another one, common boat wisdom (if there is such a thing) would suppose that this one is the best of the best. Regardless, it is here and ready for a demo (or a ride home). Stop by and visit it and talk some "Tugging" with us.

BARGAINS TO BE HAD

If you are looking for a new boat and would really like to get a bargain you can feel good about, we still have a limited amount of older inventory left that we would be happy to move at huge discounts from the original pricing

.

If you are looking for a used boat, we also have some very interesting consignment vessels on hand, many at absolute steals.

Come by the lot or call Marc for more details about what is available and just how good the pricing can be. You may find that this is the perfect time for you to either upgrade or make your first step into recreational boating.

FISHING AND BOATING REPORTS

Well, we were going to have a very positive and optimistic fishing report for you. The early spring has been good both for inshore fisherman and those that have caught a break from the weather and made it any distance offshore. However, we are very worried, as are many folks, about the ongoing situation with the oil field disaster. The growing slick is so far being pushed away from us, which, while temporary good news for Florida beaches, boaters, and anglers, unfortunately means it is headed for the incredibly rich and fertile coastline of Louisiana that is such an important part of the Gulf's ecosystem. Governor Crist has declared a State of Emergency for most of the West Coast of Florida.

You can email his Press Office here with your feelings about the situation: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

NOAA has restricted fishing in the Gulf, expanding the closed area almost daily. The SOFA website is posting updates daily from a number of sources.

We will continue to watch the situation and hope that somewhere there is a real "expert" with an idea for a way to minimize the damage from this unfortunate accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those lost in the fire and explosion, as well as with those potential innocent victims, the fish, sea birds, and other wildlife, that may be in the path of this slick.

If you are headed our way for vacation, or live here and just want to get out on the water without investing in your own boat, keep in mind that our Wefing's Boat Rentals are available. A rental boat can be the perfect solution for what to do on a day or your vacation or how to get to the perfect fishing spot that just isn't accessible any other way.

We have (from left to right in the picture above) a Sundance Skiff, a Pontoon Boat, and a Technical Poling Skiff (flats boat) available for daily, multi-day, or weekly rental. We will deliver the boat to you in the morning at Ten Foot Hole Marina in Apalachicola or, for multi day rentals we will make other arrangements depending on where you are staying in the area. All our boats are fully equipped for a day of fun on the water, including electronics and safety equipment and coolers. All you have to supply is your fishing rods and tackle, your ice and beverages, and a reasonable amount of boating experience and we can set you up for days of reasonably priced fun on our local waters.

You can call Melissa or Marc at 850 670 8100 for more information about pricing and availability. Mike A. will be handling the boat drop off and pickups and you can call him at (850) 445 8017 for more information about available dates and current conditions as well. Check our rental website where we have more information as well as a rate schedule and sample rental contract posted.

Guests enjoy access to a fully equipped kitchen with complimentary coffee, teas and cereals. The entire house is available for rental and accommodates up to 9 guests. Relax on the spacious porches and make yourself at home. There is also a second story 2 bed, 2 bath Carriage House overlooking the garden available.
